How To Make Hash at Home ....With Your Shoe

We love our extracts here at The Pairist. In our formulations, we focus on modern extracts like diamond and rosin for boosted THC and an enriched cannabinoid profile, but the concept has been around for centuries — and it’s simpler to make at home than you might think.

Hash is one of the first derived cannabis extracts, with a storied history of use in the Middle East especially. References to it date back as early as the twelfth century, when woven screens were used as predecessors to the modern-day kief catcher to separate dried trichomes before compressing them.

The extract today is still derived from the dried bits of these sticky, resinous arms on the buds responsible for taste, smell, and effect. To create hash, the trichomes are compacted and collected into sticky balls, blocks, and sheets to sprinkle into bowls and joints or smoke on its own. It’s exponentially more potent than unprocessed cannabis, making it a great choice to increase your high no matter how you choose to consume.

The simplest way to make hash at home is known as “the shoe method,” and it involves — you guessed it — your shoe.

THE SHOE METHOD

THE SHOE METHOD 〰️

    • Kief (5 grams is ideal)

    • Piece of tape

    • Parchment paper

    • Pin

    • Shoe

  • 1. Wrap the kief tightly in parchment paper, securing it with tape. Cellophane will do in a pinch, but it tends to be a messier process when it comes time to unfold.

    2. Take your pin and make a small hole in the package to allow any trapped air to escape.

    3. Place the package in the sole of your shoe, under your heel, and start walking. Your weight and body heat will press your kief into a slab of hash.

    4. Keep walking for at least fifteen minutes or up to an hour — the longer you go, the more complete your puck of hash will be.
